ABA- Accredited Business Accountant:  ABAs specialize in accounting services for individuals, families, and small-to medium-size businesses.  The ABA credential is a prestigious indicator to clients, potential clients, employers, and the public at large that the business accountant has proficiency in the accounting and taxation field. They can provide personalized financial reports and interpret those reports for you.  These professionals have passed the standardized Accreditation Council examination which tests technical proficiency in financial accounting, reporting, statement preparation, taxation, business law, consulting services, and ethics, and have a minimum of three years of work experience in the accounting/taxation field. Many CPAs and Enrolled Agents also obtain the Accredited Business Accountant Credential.

ATP- Accredited Tax Preparer:  ATP holders have demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the existing tax code and the preparation of individual tax and small business (self-employed) tax returns.  Their expertise covers comprehensive 1040 issues, including supporting schedules, small business (self employed) returns and ethics. These professionals have completed a minimum of 60 hours of formal coursework and have a minimum of three years of work experience in taxation. These professionals have passed the standardized Accreditation Council examination. Accredited Tax Preparers have exempt status and are able to obtain the IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) – Record of Completion without taking an Annual Federal Tax Refresher course and exam.
